About Me

Me 'n Kate :D

Dynamic and motivated Master's student at University of Washington, studying Aeronautics & Astronautics, with a concentration in Plasmas. Conducting research in a wide range of fields within plasma physics, spending last year in the Flow Z-Pinch Lab, studying ways to improve confinement of plasma in pursuit of improved nuclear fusion reactor performance, and now in the SPACE Lab, designing and building a magnetic field with powerful N52 permanent magnets, as well as a custom 20x26 winding solenoid I am assembling myself.

Why I Do What I Do

Me with Buzz Aldrin!

As long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by space and the endless possibilities of this final frontier. I believe that, through a combination of spirit, hard work, and advanced technology we will be able to achieve a sustained human presence in space. I ultimately hope to work at NASA’s upcoming moon base, and support humanity in our greatest adventure yet. Ad astra!

My Projects

  1. AmCyt First Generation Cytology Robot

Utilized C++, control theory, and kinematics to program a closed-loop motion control system, capable of smearing samples to within 5 microns of thickness, automating a high-demand job of pathologists. Currently developing the second generation. Also developed a human-machine interface (HMI) on a Raspberry Pi using Python and serial communication.

  2. OneLoop Milano Hyperloop Pod

    Milano Hyperloop Pod

Operations Consultant, and former President, designing and building a hyperloop pod for the European Hyperloop Week competition. It features a complex system of linear induction motors, inverters, and a fault-tolerant programmable logic controller from Beckhoff, all on a custom aluminum frame. Physically manufacturing and testing the pod, as well as advising the team on best practices and design specifications.

  3. Pilot Smartphone Controller

    Pilot Smartphone Controller

Built a Bluetooth keyboard case for iPhone, featuring a keyboard which stows neatly behind the phone, and can be brought to the front when needed to enable easy smartphone control for the visually impaired or those who prefer mechanical keyboards. Takes advantage of Apple's Full Keyboard Access, enabling complete control of an iPhone with custom-programmed keyboard shortcuts.

  4. OneLoop 2019 Hyperloop Pod

    2019 Hyperloop Pod

Designed and manufactured a set of two pneumatically actuated friction-braking systems, each composed of two pneumatic brake calipers. This redundant braking system ensured that the pod would come to a complete stop even in the event of catastrophic loss of one system. After fully assembling and mounting the dual system, SpaceX certified it as safe and operational.

  5. Mindspace

    Mindspace Login!

Developing an app using SwiftUI which will serve as a virtual museum, hosting augmented reality artwork leveraging Apple's ARKit, specifically USDZ and Reality file-types. Led a small group of undergraduate students in exploring a Unity-based approach through my involvement with the Google Developer Student Club (GDSC) at UC Davis.

  6. Focus

    Focus App

Designed, programmed, and tested a video game inspired by the card game Concentration using MATLAB App Designer. I was responsible for much of the programming implementation, and went above and beyond to include animations, a persistent high score array, and multiple themes. The project ended up receiving high marks, and was a valuable learning experience for my teammates and I.
